MFBTY ADVENTURES THROUGH LA; KILLS IT AT KTMF

KoreaTimes Hollywood Bowl is the longest running American annual KPOP concert, boasting of having many of Korea’s top of the top artists. While this was the primary reason MFBTY came to LA, they made the most of their short stay. Our team was lucky enough to document parts of their ventures (with management photos for those moments we weren’t present), and we’re happy to let the fandom live vicariously through our experience.

DAY 1

The group arrived last Thursday, May 5th, and while the flight was tiring, they were in high spirits for their upcoming gig. The trio decided to add associate DJ, DJ R2, to their set last minute, adding an interesting scratch combo with their regular DJ, Smells. The brisk LA weather was refreshing for all of them, and a stay in LA always brings about past fun adventures they had in the city (LA is JK’s second home, as he spent most of his childhood there). The staff of KTMF were glad to put them up in one of the fancier hotels in the city, The Millennium Biltmore, an arrangement that is more extravagent than their usual accommodations. Bizzy was more than happy to post the evidence of their fancy stay.

While sleep was probably a smarter choice, the trio took to the streets of Downtown LA that night to take a brisk walk. DJ R2 seemed the most excited by his big city visit, but manager, Ryoji, DJ Smells, and Bizzy were glad to show excitement and videobomb R2’s Instagram.

DAY 2

The excitement of the city made sleeping tough, but they did not let that show during their rehearsal. The sheer size of the Hollywood Bowl was an eye opener, but no performance at the Bowl is complete without the proper backing images. DJ Smells got the all star entrance spinning around on a rotating stage, backed by images from MFBTY’s “Wondaland” and “Angel.” If you didn’t know who the members were before, you were going to find out from the giant screens.

It was soon off to Club Feria, thanks to an invite from the club owners. What was originally supposed to be a quick hello and chill, turned into a night of reunions and an impromptu concert for club goers. The same night, old Movement member, Microdot (from then DOK2 + MICRODOT group, AllBlack), was scheduled to perform. Upon hearing of our family’s presence that night, Microdot made it a point to visit the family for a thorough reunion.

The fam jammed to Microdot’s set, very proud to see old fam doing well. However, the big highlight for MFBTY’s fans that night was when DJ R2 decided to take over the turntables, dropping “Monster,” and then convincing MFBTY to take the stage. R2 then played Bizzy’s “ALL I NEED,” giving Bizzy fans the American stage debut of the single.

DAY 3

Friday was enough to tire everyone out, and give them an opportunity to sleep so they’d be ready for the big day. Hollywood Bowl is a long day, for both fans and the artists. With a total of 21 acts, and a requirement for artists to appear on stage at the very end, that put our trio at the venue for nearly 7 hours. Coming and leaving proved difficult, but in California tradition, the team was able to have In-N-Out delivered to them for their dinner. When in Rome…

Despite getting rest, the team was still physically tired and anxious for the big show. They were the second to last act, the lead up into Shinee. They stopped for a few minutes prior to put on a positive face for us, even giving us this fun treat.

At 9:50PM, MFBTY went on, starting with “ANGEL.” Despite the huge line up of artists, there were a number of fans in the $300 pit waiting just for MFBTY. They gave the predominantly pop line-up a hip-hop twist when they dropped, “Sweet Dream,” then “BangDiggyBangBang,” and SURPRISE-“MONSTER.” Most KTMF performances are 3 songs long, but MFBTY somehow managed to squeeze a bonus song for concert goers.

They returned at the end of the show with all the other artists. Rather than simply sing the end song, they decided to make the fan experience even better: for a full 10 minutes, they dropped into the pit, signed autographs, and took pictures with fans.

After a long day, the fam went back to their hotel to rest. However, the next day, they reflected on how many fans came out specifically for them amongst a large line-up of artists. Despite given a short set, it was apparent that fans were more than content with finally being able to see one of their rare U.S. performances.

MFBTY thanks all fans who came out to this short set. The fam would love to come back for a full on concert of their own soon, and DT MFBTY INTL will be the first to let you know when they do.

MFBTY’s Bizzy: “I Know What The Haters Say. They Only Motivate Me.”

When people think of Bizzy, they think of him standing on stage with Tiger JK and Yoon Mi Rae, as part of the group MFBTY.

But now, Bizzy has released a single, “All I Need,” as a solo artist. The track has a fresh, soft feel to it, and you don’t hear the raw powerful rapping that you often see when Bizzy performs on stage. The lyrics are meant to document a real relationship’s development (“Let’s get fat together, let’s sleep together forever, grow old together and everywhere we go, we go together”).

Bizzy’s motto is simple: sing about life, not utilizing hiphop to brag about himself. He acknowledges that early in his career, he rapped with those powerful raw tones that we know. However, he now wants to do hiphop that his future wife and kids can enjoy. Bizzy met up with Daily Sports recently to discuss himself as a solo artist, as well as speaking about him fellow group members – Tiger JK and Yoon Mi Rae.

buck yeah
Q: You named your song, “Black Hair, Spring Onion Roots” (This is a correct translation of Bizzy’s song, which is a common saying in Korea at weddings stating that the wedded couple with love each other until their black hair looks like white onion roots). Please tell us more about it.

Bizzy: I attended a lot of my friends’ weddings and they asked me to sing nuptial songs. When I thought about it, all the songs I released were about breakups and sad moments. This track was created so that I have something to gift them with when I get asked to sing at weddings, but I decided to release it publicly. Honestly, I wanted to release a whole album, but due to recording “We Kid,” it got released as a single.

Q: In “We Kid,” you interacted with kids of all ages. How was that experience?

Bizzy: I learned a lot. When I was younger, I babysat kids. I love kids. I am not sure whether this is due to my mental age (haha),  but I adore their innocence. It rubs off on me too. Even after the program ended, the kids texted me saying that they love the track.

Q: You are now performing as a solo artist. How do you feel standing on stage alone?

Bizzy: When I am on stage with Tiger JK and Yoon Mi Rae, I thought about standing on stage as a solo artist. Now that I am actually doing it, it’s a lot of pressure. It’s not an easy job to say the least. I am very thankful. I am feeling a lot of responsibility now that I am working on my solo career.

Q: Your label, Feel Ghood Music, vibe seems very family-like…

Bizzy: It’s not ‘like’ a family, we are a family. I’ve been working with them for over 4 years now and they take care of me so well. When my single got released, Yoon Mi Rae congratulated me with a cake and threw a surprise party just for me. I felt loved and at the same time, I thought to myself that I continuously need to work harder.

Q: Did Tiger JK and Yoon Mi Rae provide support for your solo track?

Bizzy: Yes, and it meant a lot to me. They provide everlasting support and you can see them in my music video. They advised that this solo career is like a extended MFBTY music career (to take some weight/burden off my shoulders). They are both incredibly busy, but they took a lot of time helping me out with my single. When I was emotionally stressed, they were always there for me.

Q: This is a great opportunity to raise awareness to the general public about yourself.

Bizzy: That’s what I am concentrating on. I want that to occur so that I am more an asset to the team. I want to sing my track at my friends’ weddings. Everywhere around me, I got family and friends helping me out so I want to do really well.

Q: What do you want the general public to think about you?

Bizzy: I think there are already some biased opinion about me. Everyone knows Tiger JK and Yoon MiRae. I’ve seen a lot of comments suggesting that I am riding on their backs. These kind of things motivate me rather than hurt me. I am focusing on growing musically by collaborating with artists that I am close with, such as Dok2 or YDG.

Q: What’s Bizzy’s definition of hiphop?

Bizzy: It’s “Black Hair, Spring Onion Roots.” If it wasn’t for music, I would not have had the opportunity to meet my fam and the team that I work with. Through music I loved, and for the love of music, I live.

Sidenote: Bizzy’s single hit #1 on Melon charts within 24 hours of release. It is available for download on Itunes.

BIZZY Watches Premiere of His MV Live With Fans

Our Bizzy B has truly lived up to his name this week. Bizzy wanted to let all his fans know about his comeback in every way possible, starting with a pre-listening party on Saturday, and two teaser drops (1, 2) 48 hours before the actual release of his new single, “검은머리 파뿌리/All I Need.”

We thought we had a load of work cut out for us already, including releasing this package of exclusive images  (see 1, 2, 3, 4) to promote Bizzy’s grand return. We underestimated our Bizzy B, however, when Feel Ghood Music announced that B would be watching the premiere of his video on Naver V alongside his fans.

Our generally quiet boy had a 180 tonight, being very vocal about how much this release meant to him. Remaining true to his honest nature, he did admit he was nervous being it has been so long he’d release something on his own. This is also one of the few times he’s hosted a Naver V session alone, and he wasn’t sure what was it fans wanted to see. He made us proud when he trusted his gut, doing a mini performance alongside his MV viewing, and then giving us a freestyle after.

Bizzy’s official stage debut of “All I Need” is tomorrow on M Countdown, but hey, real fans know his debut performance just happened 2 hours ago.

Check Bizzy’s full MV below, though you might wanna’ preface it with his Naver broadcast for optimal enjoyment.

MFBTY’s Bizzy To Release Album After 8 Years

MFBTY’s Bizzy is known to fans as MFBTY’s mysterious (yet single) pretty boy. While many fans focus on Tiger JK & YoonMiRae’s relationship, April 20th marks the day Bizzy takes back the spotlight.

Bizzy’s last EP album, “Bizzionary,” dropped a whopping 8 years ago in 2008. It was led by single, “The Day We Broke Up,” a remix of a Lee HyunWoo’s classic. Bizzy has performed alongside Tiger JK and YoonMiRae for over 10 years, but his main accomplishments are often quieter ones, collaborating with artists such as Leessang, Dok2, Jay Park, Lee Hyori, and many others. However, his upcoming album puts him in the forefront, with fellow MFBTY members and many others providing supporting vocals.

While we still don’t know who else is participating on his album, what we do know is his title single, “검은머리 파뿌리 (All I Need),” will drop April 20th. The single will feature singer, Kye Bumzu, and based on the teaser Bizzy dropped today, we can expect some soulful sounds and Bizzy hotness dressed in a suit.

Bizzy’s debut performance will be on April 21st on MNET M Countdown.

MFBTY Talk Their Fave Lyrics: Slick Rick, Warren G, Mos Def

In the second MFBTY installment of Hyundai Music Library, the group are asked to talk about songs that had meaningful lyrics. They really took us back through time as they talk about the storytelling of Slick Rick, Warren G and the meaning of 213 (Westcoast hip-hop), and then the rarity of Mos Def’s “Ms. Fat Booty.”

Newer generations will have to wait until later in the episode to recognize a song, when Bizzy talks about the rarity of Kanye West and Jay-Z’s “N*ggas in Paris.”

Regardless if you grew up listening to these classics just like MFBTY, clearly the group is well-versed in hip-hop’s history, taking it way back to its 70s-80s origins.

MFBTY Joins Line Up for LA Korea Times Music Fest

A few weeks ago, we announced that Tiger JK & Bizzy would be part of the Korea Times Music Festival. However, eager MFBTY fans felt a great void without leading lady, YoonMiRae, and many held out until they knew if she’d join for sure.

Well, MFBTY family, your prayers have been answered.

An MFBTY show would not be complete without our fierce siren, and she has agreed to complete the trifecta on May 7th.

The show will take place at LA’s grand Hollywood Bowl. Other artists included in the line up are Red Velvet, FT Island, and AOA.

Still many tickets available on Korea Times Music Festival’s website. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

TigerJK Debuted Bizzy’s Single And P.O’d His Own Manager

On a Thursday night Arirang SoundK interview, Tiger JK and host, singer Esna, made it a mission to get Bizzy speaking. While it was apparent fans were missing YoonMiRae, Tiger JK filled the void with his “Michael Scott” like jokes and by poking harmless fun at partner, Bizzy. We find out Bizzy actually was a babysitter, and that despite Jordan calling him uncle, Jordan is weirded out by Uncle Bizzy.

However, as things got crazier, JK decided to play Bizzy’s next single, which is due to debut next month. Upon noticing what JK was doing, his own manager comes in to give JK the glare so as to not to spoil the single.

But don’t worry! We have it on tape for you!

The hilarity starts circa 1:06. Bizzy’s single starts at 1:47. We get a bit of the hook before MFBTY’s manager gives him the side eye.

The full interview is a real treat for Bizzy fans, who as he said, spoke more than his usual. For JK fans, it’s worth it just for the laughs.

[VID] MFBTY’s Guilty Pleasure Include Def Leppard and Gwen Stefani

Hyundai Card has partnered with MFBTY to create an intimate series of music discussions at their new Hyundai Music Library. The large collection of both Korean and American LPs is a musician’s dream, where LPs have nearly died and reminiscing past music is a rarity.

In a whopping 30-min episode, MFBTY are asked to discuss their childhood idols and guilty pleasure songs that defined their younger years. Their eyes light up as they lip-synch and goofy dance to Lenny Kravitz, MC Hammer, Gwen Stefani, and Def Leppard.

Though the hip-hop pioneers could not complete the episode without talking about 90s hip-hop, where Tiger JK became excited talking about Wutang Clan, Nas, Biggie, and Tasha’s favorite, 2pac.

A special bonus: Tiger JK calls Illionaire’s Dok2 mid-session.

YoonMiRae Told Us She Was Fierce In Just One Magazine Feature

The March issue of Women’s Focus (여성중앙) put powerful women, particularly famous mothers, in the spotlight. Naturally, YoonMiRae was included, and her photos clearly show she’s more than an average mother.

Donning a fierce afro, MiRae shines in colorful outfits complimenting her figure, while at times getting sexy and revealing some leg. For a minute, we forget she’s a laid back, easy going woman, who just happens to play the role of mom during the day. All we see is the most influential female in Korean hip-hop.
