Yoonmirae’s “Kawi Bawi Bo” A Juicy Teaser To Major Moment: Her 2nd Hip-Hop Album

As if news of the last Drunken Tiger album wasn’t enough, Yoonmirae is scheduled to release her new single, “Peace, Power, Unity,” on April 20th 6PM KST, only a week after Drunken Tiger’s “Yet.”

In a recent V LIVE broadcast, Tiger JK joked that they would be competing against each other. However, fans don’t seem to mind, and are excited to see how they’ll compete with each other.

The Korean title, “Kawi Bawi Bo,” is commonly known as the classic Rock, Paper, Scissors game, which is often played between children and adults to make decisions.

However, the song is quite a precursor to Yoonmirae’s “Gemini 2,” a hip-hop follow up to her first hip-hop album nearly 16 years ago.

Peep the teaser Feel Ghood Music released. What are you expectations of “Gemini 2?”

EDIT 4/19 4:19PM EST: Previous posts and articles have cited 4/20 was the date of the actual album release. This date will only be for Yoonmirae’s “KawiBawiBo” release. The full album still does not have a release date.

Tiger JK: “2017 Will Be The Last Year of Drunken Tiger”

While New Year’s Day often signals new beginnings, it was the day that Tiger JK announced the Drunken Tiger name will retire.

Feel Ghood Music has hinted of a new Drunken Tiger album, but it being the last was cemented yesterday when JK discussed his plans for 2017.

img_4754

This announcement coincides with the 18th anniversary of Drunken Tiger’s first album “Year Of The Tiger.” Drunken Tiger, then a duo with former partner, DJ Shine, was one of the most controversial yet pivotal artist debuts. Drunken Tiger strived to represent hip-hop culture to the mainstream in a time when it was not accepted. It was expected of new artists to be “packaged,” with coordinated dancing, coordinated outfits, lip-synching, and acting conservative. Drunken Tiger hardly conformed to these conventions, and utilized their fame to speak on controversial issues, both political and cultural. It was no surprise that this behavior often resulted in banning from mainstream media, with only 3 of the album’s 13 songs deemed acceptable for public play.

Despite the obstacles, Drunken Tiger exposed the country to the underground hip-hop culture then mainly known in small circles of Seoul’s Hongdae Arts District. From this scene came artists like Dynamic Duo, Leessang, and Epik High.

It is widely believed that the Korean hip-hop scene would not be where it is today if it were not for Drunken Tiger’s achievements. Drunken Tiger was the first widely recognized hip-hop artist to win #1 on chart shows like Inki Gayo, with their 3rd album single, “Good Life.”

Feel Ghood Music made it clear only “Drunken Tiger” will be retired, and Tiger JK will still be active in other forms. Future plans are indefinite. However, the continuance of MFBTY is still a high possibility, as well as mentoring new Feel Ghood Music artist, Junoflo. UPDATE: Tiger JK still plans to promote music under his own name.

One of JK’s more immediate projects involves his participation in a hip-hop competition show, now known as “High School Rapper.” JK had long refused to participate in similar programs, but felt this particular project was unique.

“I got a confirmation from the producers there would be no dissing on High School Rapper,” JK says. The dissing focal point of shows like Show Me The Money has been a contention for JK, as he felt there was more to hip-hop culture. Regarding how he will be involved in High School Rapper, “I will be working with the winning participants to produce their music.”

There is no estimated date on Drunken Tiger’s last album (update: The later half of 2017 was mentioned), but it will be a bitter sweet end of an era for all of the Korean hip-hop industry.

YOONMIRAE’s new single, “Hold on, Baby” confirmed for 09/13

Rumors of a new Yoonmirae single trickled down the grapevine last night, sending the music world into a whirlwind. All the sources gave us were the song would be “stylish pop.” FGM cryptically confirmed the rumors and simply wrote on their pages, “The Realest is coming.”

Come 24 hours later, fans were given the full answer. It’s the return of the Queen. Yoonmirae will be releasing her new single “Hold On Baby,” on September 13th.

“Hold On Baby” was produced by Konrad Oldmoney, a veteran in the game who worked with Hip Hop legends such as Redman, EA Sports, Red Bull, and Nike.

Far East Movement, the Asian-American supergroup who shot to stardom with their single, “Like a G6,” also mixed down the track. The group happily agreed to help Yoonmirae and TigerJK due to their mutual respect for each other.

“We are very excited to release this track to you guys,” Feel Ghood Music said. “We hope you enjoy it.”

MFBTY Talk Their Fave Lyrics: Slick Rick, Warren G, Mos Def

In the second MFBTY installment of Hyundai Music Library, the group are asked to talk about songs that had meaningful lyrics. They really took us back through time as they talk about the storytelling of Slick Rick, Warren G and the meaning of 213 (Westcoast hip-hop), and then the rarity of Mos Def’s “Ms. Fat Booty.”

Newer generations will have to wait until later in the episode to recognize a song, when Bizzy talks about the rarity of Kanye West and Jay-Z’s “N*ggas in Paris.”

Regardless if you grew up listening to these classics just like MFBTY, clearly the group is well-versed in hip-hop’s history, taking it way back to its 70s-80s origins.

YoonMiRae Talks Balancing Being Performer and Mom

As part of JTBC TV collaboration with magazine, Women’s Focus, the network produced a series of features on the magazine’s female leads, including this month’s cover model, YoonMiRae.

The theme of the March issue is to motivate women who feel they are trapped in the role of “an average mom.” Rather than be average, the issue tells women it is possible to live a dream and also be a mother (i.e. YoonMiRae).

In the footage, Yoon explains that it’s not easy being both. Raising Jordan has been a challenge, and sleep is rarity. She is blessed with a loving husband, Tiger JK, to help her with raising him.

JK later arrives to surprise her while on set, but admits that Jordan is less than enthused about mom being away for work.

See the full footage above.

[VID] MFBTY’s Guilty Pleasure Include Def Leppard and Gwen Stefani

Hyundai Card has partnered with MFBTY to create an intimate series of music discussions at their new Hyundai Music Library. The large collection of both Korean and American LPs is a musician’s dream, where LPs have nearly died and reminiscing past music is a rarity.

In a whopping 30-min episode, MFBTY are asked to discuss their childhood idols and guilty pleasure songs that defined their younger years. Their eyes light up as they lip-synch and goofy dance to Lenny Kravitz, MC Hammer, Gwen Stefani, and Def Leppard.

Though the hip-hop pioneers could not complete the episode without talking about 90s hip-hop, where Tiger JK became excited talking about Wutang Clan, Nas, Biggie, and Tasha’s favorite, 2pac.

A special bonus: Tiger JK calls Illionaire’s Dok2 mid-session.

[vid] MFBTY’s Bizzy Left Speechless By His Birthday Gift

Screenshot 2016-03-01 22.25.10

While we at DT MFBTY INTL traditionally deliver gifts via social media, we wanted to give MFBTY’s Bizzy something different for his big “9th” birthday. We know our Leap Year boy is still growing, so we went for stuff he could touch, smell, and most importantly, EAT.

When we put out the call on our social media outlets, we encouraged fans to send stuff that MFBTY could not find in Korea. We were asked what Bizzy’s hobbies were, his favorite food, what he likes to wear, and the results were pretty amazing.

Some of Bizzy’s gifts included:

  • weighted boxing gloves from a Texas fan
  • a box of Twinkies (also from Texas)
  • Rooster Sirarcha sauce bottles
  • orange Tic Tacs (his weakness)
  • Guyabano and Biis from Brazil
  • Siraracha potato chips
  • artwork and letters
  • Reese’s Pieces packs
  • a handwoven hat from California
  • a hat, sweatpants, and snacks from us

Feel Ghood Music filmed the whole reveal, and in between you can hear MFBTY being full dork and cracking jokes on each other. Tiger JK does not make a physical appearance because he was too busy playing witty cameraman.

Supposedly, Bizzy got greedy at first and brought the entire box home with him, but after some pressure, brought back some goods to share (LOL!).

Check the video for the full reaction.

Thanks to all the fans and Drunken Tiger MFBTY INTL staff who submitted!
