MFBTY is coming to SXSW; What You Need To Know

[SXSW impt update 03/01]

If you’ve been living in the 90’s and don’t know what social media is, then you’ve completely missed the big news that Drunken Tiger, Yoonmirae, Bizzy (aka MFBTY) are coming to renowned awesome-encompassing South by Southwest.
Yes, you read that correctly: MFBTY is performing in America.

Over the weeks, we’ve been posited with a number of questions, including if the group will do extra shows nationwide, and if additional Feel Ghood Music artists are coming.

With the performance less than 3 weeks away, we’ve broken down the most common questions to help all fans attending.

Yoonmirae & Drunken Tiger JK attend SXSW Press Conference 02/29

The Basic Who/What/When:

The group will be performing FRIDAY, MARCH 17TH, at The Belmont, Austin, TX. They will be part of SXSW annual KPOP Night Out (hosted by KOCCA), a showcase of mainstream and independent Korean artists. Others performing include Red Velvet, No Brain, Big Phony, Hyorin, and Galaxy Express.

On The SXSW website you will see that MFBTY technically is not listed as an artist, but Yoonmirae an Drunken Tiger are. While listed as 2 separate artists, they will have Bizzy, and two other Feel Ghood Music artists, Junoflo and Ann One joining them.

The set is to last 80 minutes (check SXSW GO for details). That is A LOT OF SONGS.

Admission:

Admission details regarding passes and wristbands are listed on the SXSW website.

Passes don’t just buy you entry into this performance, but EVERYTHING at SXSW.

Music wristbands will get you entry into all SXSW music shows.

Age limits:

The event is 18+, contrary to past years being 21+.

Will We (The International Website) Be There?

Yes, we will be at the show hours ahead, maybe with some fun swag 🙂

Will There Be MFBTY Merchandise?

That is something up to Feel Ghood Music. We have not heard anything about merchandise.

Can I Bring My DSLR Camera?

With the exception of press, attendees will generally not be allowed to bring professional cameras. All cameras will be inspected at the door. Phone cameras are allowed.

Will MFBTY Be Doing Any Other Shows at SXSW Or On Tour?

No, there is only one show. MFBTY hardly does US shows, so go to this or forever hold your peace.

“I Am Press And Would Like To Interview MFBTY.”

Please send your inquiry to Max Freedman max@maraudergroup.com. For anyone who emailed us, all your inquiries were forwarded already.

Out-of-Towners, Book Your Plane/Hotels ASAP.

The number of available and affordable places to stay is drying up (AirBNB is down to less 1% availability for close places under $120/night). The area you will be looking at is Downtown/University of Texas Austin. The further out, the more availability, but less transport options. Make a decision this week if you’re still contemplating flying in.

What To Pack

Portable chargers, wall chargers, umbrella, lightweight clothing, extra shoes. It’s warm and rainy in Austin. Your phone will die, so bring everything you need to keep you connected.

Getting To The Venue

Downtown Austin is serviced by a number of rails, buses, and carriages. However, parking is a P-I-T-A. There is no Uber or Lyft either. Plan ahead for other car sharing options.

Don’t Just Go To One Show

SXSW is a massive music, film, interactive, EVERYTHING festival. Tons of free food, parties, drinks, etc. There are a number of social media accounts monitoring free events (most summarized here). Enjoy your time while in town!

Get Back To the Airport Early, Especially If You’re Leaving Sunday

SXSW brings in thousands of people, most of whom leave Sunday. The Austin airport is tiny, and lines will be backed up (yes, even with TSA Pre-Check). Allow for 3-4 hours prior to your flight.

If you have any other questions not answered here, email us or hit us up on any of our social media channels.

See you in Austin!

More SXSW here.

Feel Ghood Music Tribute Song Says “Thank You, A Tribe Called Quest”

On the dawn of long awaited (and sadly, last) album of hip-hop pioneers, A Tribe Called Quest, all artists from Feel Ghood Music decided to remake ATCQ’s, “Check The Rhime” as a thank you for inspiring the entire FGM team.

Upon hearing the ATCQ album announcement, Tiger JK and Yoonmirae posted the above video of themselves jamming to the original song. What was not expected was the idea that fans would plant within them:

And with that, fan dreams became real, a reminder that our celeb biases do read their comments thread (Proceed with caution!).

The track includes every member of Feel Ghood Music and its counterpart, Ghood Life Crew. If you’re not up to date, that includes Tiger JK, Yoonmirae, Bizzy, Junoflo, Ann One, Myundo, and Superbee.

The exclusive (FREE) track will be available on hiphopkr.com later today

Tiger JK & Feel Ghood Music Welcome New Artist: Junoflo

Earlier today, Feel Ghood Music put out a teaser announcement about a new artist signing with the label. After weeks of Feel Ghood Music fam becoming close with rappers SuperBee and MyunDo, fans immediately thought the obvious new artists would be the duo. However, FGM proved they could fool even the smartest of fans.

There was no press conference, and only a very quiet build up to the moment. Leave it to boss, Tiger JK, to announce it in a less formal, but just powerful way via Instagram.

JK’s message reads, “Feel Ghood Music welcomes Junoflo to the family! Support our musical journey together. Let it be known @Junoflo! It’s official!”

To learn more about Junoflo, follow him on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat (@junoflo). HipHopKR also did a great interview with him last month.

Welcome to the family, Junoflo.

2016-05-07 20.55.40Summer 2012 – KPOP NIGHT OUT in Singapore got a dose of YoonMiRae, Tiger JK, and Bizzy during the pre-stages of MFBTY during a humid Asia night. Fans welcomed the trio from their first steps into the country until their take off at the airport, leaving fans waiting eagerly for their return. Despite a very warm reception, the trio has not done an Asia show (outside of Korea) since then.

But thanks to Concrete & Grass MUSIC FESTIVAL, patient fans can now relax. September 17th marks the a huge moment for MFBTY, where they will be performing amongst a mega line up of international stars. Other stars scheduled to perform include Miyavi, DJ Premiere, ASAP FERG, Zuriaake, and Re-TROS.

Yoon Mi Rae To Appear on Fantastic Duo

ymr

Entertainment Insider confirmed that Yoon Mi Rae will take part in SBS Fantastic Duo’s, recording on July 22nd.

Fantastic Duo is a show where artists and the show applicant’s team up to be a ‘fantastic duo.’ As a massively successful rapper and singer herself, it will be interesting to see which track she will choose on the show.

Tiger JK and Bizzy previously appeared on the show to do a remake of Drunken Tiger classic, “I Want You,” with legend Kim Soo Hee. With Yoon MiRae’s appearance, all MFBTY members will have appeared on the show.

With major artists such as Lee Sun Hee, Shin Seung Hun, Lim Chang Jung, Kim Bum Soo, Taeyang, VIBE, Hwan Hee, Jang Hye Jin appearing as guests to perform on stage with the show applicant who loves their music, Fantastic Duo remains one of the most talked about Korean shows.

MFBTY ADVENTURES THROUGH LA; KILLS IT AT KTMF

KoreaTimes Hollywood Bowl is the longest running American annual KPOP concert, boasting of having many of Korea’s top of the top artists. While this was the primary reason MFBTY came to LA, they made the most of their short stay. Our team was lucky enough to document parts of their ventures (with management photos for those moments we weren’t present), and we’re happy to let the fandom live vicariously through our experience.

DAY 1

The group arrived last Thursday, May 5th, and while the flight was tiring, they were in high spirits for their upcoming gig. The trio decided to add associate DJ, DJ R2, to their set last minute, adding an interesting scratch combo with their regular DJ, Smells. The brisk LA weather was refreshing for all of them, and a stay in LA always brings about past fun adventures they had in the city (LA is JK’s second home, as he spent most of his childhood there). The staff of KTMF were glad to put them up in one of the fancier hotels in the city, The Millennium Biltmore, an arrangement that is more extravagent than their usual accommodations. Bizzy was more than happy to post the evidence of their fancy stay.

While sleep was probably a smarter choice, the trio took to the streets of Downtown LA that night to take a brisk walk. DJ R2 seemed the most excited by his big city visit, but manager, Ryoji, DJ Smells, and Bizzy were glad to show excitement and videobomb R2’s Instagram.

DAY 2

The excitement of the city made sleeping tough, but they did not let that show during their rehearsal. The sheer size of the Hollywood Bowl was an eye opener, but no performance at the Bowl is complete without the proper backing images. DJ Smells got the all star entrance spinning around on a rotating stage, backed by images from MFBTY’s “Wondaland” and “Angel.” If you didn’t know who the members were before, you were going to find out from the giant screens.

2016-05-06 19.47.38

It was soon off to Club Feria, thanks to an invite from the club owners. What was originally supposed to be a quick hello and chill, turned into a night of reunions and an impromptu concert for club goers. The same night, old Movement member, Microdot (from then DOK2 + MICRODOT group, AllBlack), was scheduled to perform. Upon hearing of our family’s presence that night, Microdot made it a point to visit the family for a thorough reunion.

The fam jammed to Microdot’s set, very proud to see old fam doing well. However, the big highlight for MFBTY’s fans that night was when DJ R2 decided to take over the turntables, dropping “Monster,” and then convincing MFBTY to take the stage. R2 then played Bizzy’s “ALL I NEED,” giving Bizzy fans the American stage debut of the single.

DAY 3

Friday was enough to tire everyone out, and give them an opportunity to sleep so they’d be ready for the big day. Hollywood Bowl is a long day, for both fans and the artists. With a total of 21 acts, and a requirement for artists to appear on stage at the very end, that put our trio at the venue for nearly 7 hours. Coming and leaving proved difficult, but in California tradition, the team was able to have In-N-Out delivered to them for their dinner. When in Rome…

Despite getting rest, the team was still physically tired and anxious for the big show. They were the second to last act, the lead up into Shinee. They stopped for a few minutes prior to put on a positive face for us, even giving us this fun treat.

mfbty silly

At 9:50PM, MFBTY went on, starting with “ANGEL.” Despite the huge line up of artists, there were a number of fans in the $300 pit waiting just for MFBTY. They gave the predominantly pop line-up a hip-hop twist when they dropped, “Sweet Dream,” then “BangDiggyBangBang,” and SURPRISE-“MONSTER.” Most KTMF performances are 3 songs long, but MFBTY somehow managed to squeeze a bonus song for concert goers.

They returned at the end of the show with all the other artists. Rather than simply sing the end song, they decided to make the fan experience even better: for a full 10 minutes, they dropped into the pit, signed autographs, and took pictures with fans.

Mirae came down to sign and say hi too! 😁😳 #KMF2016

After a long day, the fam went back to their hotel to rest. However, the next day, they reflected on how many fans came out specifically for them amongst a large line-up of artists. Despite given a short set, it was apparent that fans were more than content with finally being able to see one of their rare U.S. performances.

MFBTY thanks all fans who came out to this short set. The fam would love to come back for a full on concert of their own soon, and DT MFBTY INTL will be the first to let you know when they do.

MFBTY’s Bizzy: “I Know What The Haters Say. They Only Motivate Me.”

When people think of Bizzy, they think of him standing on stage with Tiger JK and Yoon Mi Rae, as part of the group MFBTY.

But now, Bizzy has released a single, “All I Need,” as a solo artist. The track has a fresh, soft feel to it, and you don’t hear the raw powerful rapping that you often see when Bizzy performs on stage. The lyrics are meant to document a real relationship’s development (“Let’s get fat together, let’s sleep together forever, grow old together and everywhere we go, we go together”).

Bizzy’s motto is simple: sing about life, not utilizing hiphop to brag about himself. He acknowledges that early in his career, he rapped with those powerful raw tones that we know. However, he now wants to do hiphop that his future wife and kids can enjoy. Bizzy met up with Daily Sports recently to discuss himself as a solo artist, as well as speaking about him fellow group members – Tiger JK and Yoon Mi Rae.

buck yeah
Q: You named your song, “Black Hair, Spring Onion Roots” (This is a correct translation of Bizzy’s song, which is a common saying in Korea at weddings stating that the wedded couple with love each other until their black hair looks like white onion roots). Please tell us more about it.

Bizzy: I attended a lot of my friends’ weddings and they asked me to sing nuptial songs. When I thought about it, all the songs I released were about breakups and sad moments. This track was created so that I have something to gift them with when I get asked to sing at weddings, but I decided to release it publicly. Honestly, I wanted to release a whole album, but due to recording “We Kid,” it got released as a single.

Q: In “We Kid,” you interacted with kids of all ages. How was that experience?

Bizzy: I learned a lot. When I was younger, I babysat kids. I love kids. I am not sure whether this is due to my mental age (haha),  but I adore their innocence. It rubs off on me too. Even after the program ended, the kids texted me saying that they love the track.

Q: You are now performing as a solo artist. How do you feel standing on stage alone?

Bizzy: When I am on stage with Tiger JK and Yoon Mi Rae, I thought about standing on stage as a solo artist. Now that I am actually doing it, it’s a lot of pressure. It’s not an easy job to say the least. I am very thankful. I am feeling a lot of responsibility now that I am working on my solo career.

Q: Your label, Feel Ghood Music, vibe seems very family-like…

Bizzy: It’s not ‘like’ a family, we are a family. I’ve been working with them for over 4 years now and they take care of me so well. When my single got released, Yoon Mi Rae congratulated me with a cake and threw a surprise party just for me. I felt loved and at the same time, I thought to myself that I continuously need to work harder.

bz bumzu mfbty

Q: Did Tiger JK and Yoon Mi Rae provide support for your solo track?

Bizzy: Yes, and it meant a lot to me. They provide everlasting support and you can see them in my music video. They advised that this solo career is like a extended MFBTY music career (to take some weight/burden off my shoulders). They are both incredibly busy, but they took a lot of time helping me out with my single. When I was emotionally stressed, they were always there for me.

Q: This is a great opportunity to raise awareness to the general public about yourself.

Bizzy: That’s what I am concentrating on. I want that to occur so that I am more an asset to the team. I want to sing my track at my friends’ weddings. Everywhere around me, I got family and friends helping me out so I want to do really well.

Q: What do you want the general public to think about you?

Bizzy: I think there are already some biased opinion about me. Everyone knows Tiger JK and Yoon MiRae. I’ve seen a lot of comments suggesting that I am riding on their backs. These kind of things motivate me rather than hurt me. I am focusing on growing musically by collaborating with artists that I am close with, such as Dok2 or YDG.

Q: What’s Bizzy’s definition of hiphop?

Bizzy: It’s “Black Hair, Spring Onion Roots.” If it wasn’t for music, I would not have had the opportunity to meet my fam and the team that I work with. Through music I loved, and for the love of music, I live.

Sidenote: Bizzy’s single hit #1 on Melon charts within 24 hours of release. It is available for download on Itunes.
