[news] Tiger JK, Yoon Mi Rae, Bizzy: “We’re Dreaming of Evolving”

Label Feel Ghood Music Is In Full Force; Yoon Mi Rae’s Angel Becomes A Hit!

Tiger JK, Yoon MiRae, and Bizzy are all individual hip hop artists and have unique characteristics. However, when they come together as MFBTY (My Fans Better Than Yours), they produce incredible synergy as if they have been together since the beginning of time.

When they perform on stage, their teamwork is perfect.

Often called “The Godfather of Korean Hip Hop,” Tiger JK sounds as though he is the type to be shouting orders to his fellow hip hop artists, but this cannot be further from the truth. In fact Tiger JK, (especially in front of his colleagues) is an affectionate person.

“Mi Rae is busy looking after our son. Bizzy is spending all his time in the gym training to enter a boxing competition. I sometimes get lonely when I am in our office by myself.”

The reason why everyone understands each other so well in MFBTY? Respect, compassion, and teamwork.

These three artists established their label Feel Ghood Music over a year ago. However, they are now revving up their music engine.

The writer of this article met MFBTY at a café in Tong-E-Dong, Jong Gu.

MFBTY revealed that the company has 7 employees, including the 3 of them. “We are both Mi Saeng (美生 name of a popular drama series in Korea)** and bosses at the same time. We hope that our music is loved by everyone, just like that Honey Butter chip people like.”

Their start is very simple. MFBTY originally started from a basement studio in UiJeongBu, but they recently moved their office to a semi-basement space within another building nearby.

“We upgraded from the basement to a semi-basement.”

Feel Ghood Music’s First Music Launch

Yoon Mi Rae’s “Angel” became an instant hit and was nominated for the #1 spot on MBC’s Music Center despite MFBTY not making any recent TV appearances. Feel Ghood Music members were sighted attaching stickers on to the promotional CDs recently, showing they are very proud of their work.

They represent themselves as an indie label, but Yoon Mi Rae has taken the spotlight lately.

Most Koreans associate Yoon Mi Rae with keywords such as “Korea’s best rapper” and “soulful voice.”

There is a comment seen time and time again about Korea’s top 3 rappers: Yoon Mi Rae, Yoon Future (Mi Rae is “future” in Korean), and Tiger JK’s wife.

Yoon Mi Rae is an acclaimed singer as well, with her songs in drama OSTs (e.g. Touch Love) reaching #1 on charts. This is the same Yoon Mi Rae who happily packs lunchboxes and takes her son Jordan to school every morning.

Yoon Mi Rae, blushing when praised, stated that “Angel” is a hopeful track, “I made this track more than 4 years ago starting with the chorus. This song was released under my name, but we all contributed and it contains all our stories.”

“I had 8 birthdays so far (due to his birthday being on February 29th). I’ve had many trials and tribulations in my lifetime,” these are Bizzy’s lyrics from the song. They relate to his life story about how he crossed the sea from New Zealand to Korea back in 2001 and released his first solo album 7 years later.

Tiger JK said that this song is about hope for the general public and for MFBTY.

“After my father passed away, I was solely focused on making music and I was healed by working on tracks like ‘Angel.’”

The reason why Feel Ghood Music had a quiet period after establishment was due to Tiger JK’s father’s passing in February.

Suh Byung Hoo, was Korea’s first ever pop columnist and was Tiger JK’s best friend yet a high mountain that he could never climb over. Tiger JK has not cut his hair since his father passed, reminiscing of the times when his father used to pat his head.

“Maybe I am unique but I even cried all day yesterday by myself. Before I used to listen to him with half an ear but now that I can’t hear from him anymore. It is making me go crazy. Every night before I go to sleep, I speak with him. It is still very hard to move on to this day.”

But he cannot sit still when his late father pushed him to go to the studio to work on his music, even the day before his passing.

MFBTY Stated That Even If It Takes Longer Than the Norm, They Will Evolve.

“Originally, the indie hip hop movement was an evolution, not a revolution. Even if we are small compared to all the other big companies, we will continue to evolve, staying true to our vision. Even if we make mistakes, we can make our own decisions in producing, marketing, promoting etc. We are in love with this stage of our music life right now. We still have passion for what we do,” Tiger says.

Yoon Mi Rae confessed that she hoped that the label would do really well for her son’s sake.

“Since debuting back in 1997, I went through some very hard times. but now my mind is at ease. Previously I wished for a side job, but now I no longer wish for that since I make music with those that I trust the most. I told Tiger JK and Bizzy that if ‘Angel’ does well,  then I’ll be happy, but even if it doesn’t, I will still be proud of what we’ve done. The public showed me love, so I am very grateful. I have the mindset I had when I first started music professionally.”

Hearing this, Tiger JK stated that he has been catching flack from Yoon Mi Rae and Bizzy’s fans, “Bizzy’s fans are eager for his new album and Yoon Mi Rae’s fans are saying that she should go for international stages. I keep telling them (jokingly) to go look for other labels that can take care of them.”

Bizzy said that Feel Ghood Music is his home whereas Yoon Mi Rae called Tiger JK her own hero.

“Angel,” which has received lots of love, is just the tip of the iceberg for what Feel Ghood Music has planned ahead.

Next month, they are hoping to release Bizzy’s new single.

Every month, Feel Ghood Music is planning to release a new track, (much like Yoon Jong Shin’s monthly releases) to compete in the music industry.

There will be a variety of genres too, not narrowed down to just hip hop.

Tiger JK and Yoon Mi Rae concluded the interview by saying, “The music that we intend to do is not limited to hip hop, it is more of an underground pop. We are staying true to our label’s philosophy and showcase truly, feel good music. Music that moves souls.”

Feel Ghood Vision is written on their office chalkboard as follows:

“We’re going to be the No. 1 team in the world.”

To be the best label in the world, be rich by being the best team, and to become a happy company spreading beautiful messages all over the world.

That’s Feel Ghood Music’s vision.

**”Misaeng” is a stone used in baduk that signifies the will to live. Whereas “wansaeng” is a stone that has finished its life and is dead. So by MFBTY referring themselves as misaeng, they are saying that they have the will to survive even though they have met trials and tribulations.

Official Statement from Feel Ghood Music regarding “The Interview” movie and Yoon MiRae’s “Pay Day”

As some of you may or may not have heard, a remixed version of Yoon MiRae’s, “Pay Day,” (“May Day” Remix) was included in Sony’s controversial film, The Interview. Sony and FGM had initially talked about using the song in the movie, though FGM had their reservations given the content. The song in the end was not properly cleared for use, but appeared in the film anyway. As a result, FGM is in the process of taking legal actions against Sony. This is the official statement FGM gave on December 26th.

There are many news articles being released regarding this, both in Korea and in the United States. DT INTL was going to initially stay quiet on this, but we now feel compelled to respond due to the international coverage. As many of you know, we have served as Drunken Tiger/Tiger JK’s official English website for over 13 years, and this was not how any of us envisioned he or YoonMiRae would gain notice worldwide.

This has unfortunately come on the heels of the success of their recent single, “Angel,” which had already hit #1 and stayed there for many weeks. Rest assure, this ordeal with Sony came as a surprise, and takes away the positive message that the song really stands for.

Our followers have asked if we can provide any more information than what’s been stated. We will be updating as FGM releases more information. In the meantime, fans are free to voice their opinion via replying here or to Sony directly (Twitter and Facebook).

Thank you for supporting MFBTY.

[news/video] Highlights From Arirang After School; The Meaning Behind “Angel” and How MFBTY Really Are

Last night, MFBTY did their first and last interview for the year on Arirang’s Afterschool, a program where fans use Google Hangout to communicate with the stars directly. A year off screen took a toll on fan curiosity, and the group was not afraid to admit what they were up to during that long hiatus. (Warning: Spoilers ahead. Watch it first here.)

They started on a lighter note, with Tiger complimenting how nice the chairs were and how he was too broke to afford it. Tasha admitted her favorite color is purple, to which the hosts, Eric Nam, & Jimin, tempted her to take the purple chair back to the FGM office (Though we can’t imagine how hard that would be to haul from Seoul to UiJeongBu).

Tasha Purple Chair

The crew have been coordinating their own marketing tactics, and Bizzy admitted he asked fans how to say “Angel,” in their own language. After some light laughs about botched pronunciations, they talked about how “Angel,” came about. The song was sitting in the archives for nearly 4 years, but came alive as they felt it resonated with their recent experiences. The death of Tiger’s father was one of noticeable influence, but Bizzy also went through some family struggles during the year, particularly with his mother. It brought Bizzy back to the death of his grandmother, and the culmination of both thoughts led Bizzy to write to the “Angel” beat, with Tiger and Tasha following.

black angel wings

Some mysteries about the music video were also revealed, and while it seemed that the cinematography had deep meaning, we found out the meaning evoked was actually accidental. The famous black angel shot was randomly constructed by Lumpens overnight, and the black and white shot was done moreso for simplicity than emotional response. What fans take away from the video is up to them, and MFBTY is all for open interpretation.

INTL On Screen

DT INTL also got some screen time, and we asked Bizzy and Tiger to explain why they chose Bizzy to be the winner of the famous boxing scene. Turns out this was a product of randomness as well, with Lumpens shooting them shadow boxing in through the night. We also found out Bizzy spends more time in the ring versus the studio, a decision Tiger is not too thrilled about (Side note: Tiger admitted Bizzy’s new “pecs” help with the ladies, leaving Tiger a bit jealous. Boss, you’re married.)

Fans were later invited to ask questions to MFBTY directly, but we have to thank Julisa from Texas for having the best request. A few days ago, Feel Ghood Music released two pieces of hidden camera footage (here and here) of Tiger dancing to a beat made by producer, KonDQuest. The fam jokes often of Tiger’s “funky” moves, and Julisa was thankful for FGM’s shared video. She requested an encore; Tiger obliged.

Tiger Dance Kevin Hart

Arirang confessed later that they also interviewed MFBTY’s managers about them. The management team only consists of two people, so the load they endure is not light. The group was at first excited to hear what they would say, but just like the rest of the fam, their managers were honest… brutally honest. The management are MFBTY’s ride home to Uijeongbu, and we have a feeling that 1.5 hour ride was very very awkward.

TonyIsDead

On a happier note, sister site, BizzionaryINTL, was lucky enough to be in the personal hangout with MFBTY. While the show didn’t let admin, Nisa, ask questions on air, she shared with us this post interview shot of her talking with Bizzy and MFBTY directly. It was their technical first time “seeing” each other, and Bizzy being the quiet one he is, had to be teased by Tasha and Tiger to open up more to the head of his fanbase. She asked who his angel was, and the answer was as you would expect.

[Op-Ed] Why We Have To Talk About MFBTY’s Outfits At Unforgettable2014

10806188_965576123455852_9191521814158425930_n

They may have taken the stage for only 10 minutes, but their look stole the show for weeks. MFBTY have long been fashion icons, but we are thoroughly enjoying the edgy look done for the night by new stylist, Eelittle.

The blue carpet look that stole everyone’s attention is actually from Korean suit designer, JimmyTheTailor. The suits are made of silk tafetta, a heavily structured material usually associated with wedding gowns. Its shiny appearance risks gaudy reflection when hundreds of flashes are around you, and let’s not talk about risking matching the carpet. Somehow, though, our trio was able to pull it off. Tasha and Tiger’s matching suits take couple outfits to a much classier level, and each of their looks reflects their individuality with such subtlety (JK’s hat resonates Johnny Depp, an actor he admires). What tops the outfit is the excellent slim fitting. Suit jackets are never meant to squeeze at the bust and suit pants should be fitted to maximize a flattering look. So kudos to Eelittle for giving MFBTY possibly the most memorable blue carpet look for the night.

KOREAM 2

The performance of “Get It In” and “Sweet Dream,” saw a quick wardrobe change. While Bizzy remained in his suit (ever had to perform in structured non-sweat wickering fabric? Brave man), Tasha was next seen wearing a classy lace faux cut out jumpsuit from Gucci Fall 2013This was apparently her personal pick and actually reflects how highly she values comfort. Tiger, however, chose an interesting true-to-himself ensemble for the Gala performance. Docked in a long wool coat and the same Johnny Depp hat, Tiger rocked an MLK t-shirt and sweatpants underneath. The outfit on paper sounds insane for an event of prestige, but it worked only because it’s Tiger.

[news] A Boss Like No Other! Tiger JK, Captured Helping Staff with Assembling Yoon Mi Rae Promo CDs

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/dca/9236986/files/2014/12/img_8636.jpg/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/dca/9236986/files/2014/12/img_8635.jpg

Rapper Tiger JK was seen helping out with his wife’s newly released single, “Angel.”

Tiger JK & Yoon Mi Rae’s record label Feel Ghood Music released the above photo via their official twitter account (https://twitter.com/FGHmusic), with Tiger JK actively helping other staff members with hands on work.

Tiger JK, dressed in casual attire, is seen sitting on the floor attaching stickers onto Yoon Mi Rae’s promo CDs. This is a contrasting image compared to his powerful stage presence, bringinig a smile to many fans.

Tiger JK also showed his friendly side, collaborating with his employees naturally (Tiger JK is the CEO of Feel Ghood Music along with Yoon Mi Rae).

Feel Ghood Music added the following comment to the photo, “Here you can see CEO, Tiger JK, working with Feel Ghood staff attaching stickers onto the Promotion CDs. Our CEO is actively participating in all tasks.”

Fans had many adulating comments:

“There is no CEO like Tiger JK.”
“Tiger JK is the best!”
“I want that CD!”
“Looks fun, I want to join in!”

Tiger JK, has contributed immensely on Yoon Mi Rae’s “Angel.” He featured on the track as well as the music video, where their kiss represented that they are each other’s angels. This kiss scene was hugely popular with fans.

As the song is about attaching wings of hope to those that need a helping hand, Tiger JK has most definitely becoming Yoon Mi Rae’s angel.

“Angel” is YoonMiRae’s first single track to be released under her new record label Feel Ghood Music.

Since being released on December 8th, the track has then topped all major music charts and has been received positively by critics.

[editorial] 7 Things You May Have Not Noticed about Yoon Mirae’s “Angel” MV

Now that you’ve watched “Angel” (probably on repeat, for an amount of times you don’t want to admit), you probably have questions about the scenes in the video. Our observant eyes can confirm some references, but there are subtle inserts that we’re putting out there for you to interpret. So in case you missed it, here are some Easter eggs explained:

1) The Feel Ghood Toilet

TigerJK ToiletFor as long as we’ve known Tiger JK, he’s been a master of subtle jokes. We have no doubt that this was one that came out of his creative brain. Tiger stands alone staring at a toilet that reads, “Feel Ghood,” and an arrow pointing to the seat. “Take a load off and relax” just took on another meaning.

2)  The Featured Designer

newdesigner

The crew rocks a red pullover with a look reminiscent of the golden days of 90’s hip-hop, an era that all three members love. The logo’d out neoprene pullover is from Korean designer KYLLYK SPECTRUM. The pullover costs roughly $128USD and is up for purchase along with other designs also worn in the video.

3) The Promo Had Color, The Video Did Not

promo photo

Even though we’ve watched the video an endless amount of times, it took us hours to realize there wasn’t an ounce of color used. We spent weeks looking at behind the scene photos, showing off the great splash of color on those refreshing outfits. Looks like director, Lumpens, wanted to mute that so that we could focus on the main message. Well played, FGM. Well played.

4) Luckiest Fan Alive

bizzyhoodie

Through the first 1/3 of the video, Bizzy is seen wearing a hoodie with the words “Lord Bizzy” on the right sleeve. This hoodie was given to him from a fan he met at MFBTY’s 2012 performance at Singapore’s Music Matters Conference. That lucky girl is probably having a heart attack right now.

5) Bizzy’s Revenge? (Update: CONFIRMED!)

BIzzy Ending MV

If you can remember back to 2008 when Bizzy was still a solo act, he was shot in his video for “The Day After We Broke Up.” The shooter? Bossman Tiger. Tiger has a smug look on his face while Bizzy is left for dead in his car. The last scene we see is of Bizzy, half dead, trying to follow the girl he fell in love with (who ironically planned the shooting with Tiger and ran off with him). How is this related to the “Angel” music video 6 years later?

knockoutThis time we see Bizzy, healthy and fit, knocking out Tiger in the boxing ring. We’re not 100% percent on this one, but we don’t think Tiger will try to kill Bizzy again anytime soon.

6) G-PA

Angel - GPA

Tiger JK was extremely close to his father, seeing him as both a guide and friend. It is only appropriate that the first “angel” referenced during his verse is his father, which then is followed with a scene of Tiger and Tasha kissing. When JK endured the worst of his myelitis, he admitted he was dangerously depressed, but it was Tasha’s love that kept him hopeful. Thus, Tiger’s two angels: his father and his wife.

7) The FGM family

When Feel Ghood Music was established, they stressed that they wanted to keep the label very family oriented, working only with actual blood family and then those who they felt they could trust. Almost every member of the Korea team appears in this music video.
